Grandma Sardegna's famous tomato sauce. Excellent with any pasta!
Ingredients
- 2 cans of Italian plum tomatoes
- 1-1/2 lb. beef
- 1-/2 lb pork
- Cooking oil
- OR substitute meatballs for meat
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 2 cloves garlic to taste
- 1 samll chopped onion
- 2 tsp. basil
Preparation
- Heat crushed tomatoes in a large part
- Meanwhile, brown meat in oil (omit if using Meatballs)
- Add salt, pepper, garlic and onion and cook until onion is translucent
- Add meat to tomatoes
- Deglaze meat pan with a small amount of hot water or wine and add to tomatoes
- Add basil
- Simmer until meat is tender and sauce is thick, about 1-1/2 hours
- Serve over your favorite pasta
