Tomato Sauce

Grandma Sardegna's famous tomato sauce. Excellent with any pasta!

 

Ingredients

  • 2 cans of Italian plum tomatoes
  • 1-1/2 lb. beef
  • 1-/2 lb pork
  • Cooking oil
  • OR substitute meatballs for meat
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic to taste
  • 1 samll chopped onion
  • 2 tsp. basil

Preparation

  1. Heat crushed tomatoes in a large part
  2. Meanwhile, brown meat in oil (omit if using Meatballs)
  3. Add salt, pepper, garlic and onion and cook until onion is translucent
  4. Add meat to tomatoes
  5. Deglaze meat pan with a small amount of hot water or wine and add to tomatoes
  6. Add basil
  7. Simmer until meat is tender and sauce is thick, about 1-1/2 hours
  8. Serve over your favorite pasta
