This is Grandma Sardegna's famous recipe for candied yams, a Thanksgiving and Christmas classic.
Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 Tbs. butter
- Dash of nutmeg
- 8 uncooked yams
Preparation
- Peel and slice yams approximately 1/4" thick; set aside
- Bring water and sugar to a boil in a large pot
- Add butter and nutmeg
- Drop sliced yams into boiling syrup
- Cover, reduce heat and simmer until tender and transparent
