Candied Yams

This is Grandma Sardegna's famous recipe for candied yams, a Thanksgiving and Christmas classic.

 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 Tbs. butter
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • 8 uncooked yams

Preparation

  • Peel and slice yams approximately 1/4" thick; set aside
  • Bring water and sugar to a boil in a large pot
  • Add butter and nutmeg
  • Drop sliced yams into boiling syrup
  • Cover, reduce heat and simmer until tender and transparent

Serves 8
